Join Us! Be a WordCamp Miami 2019 Organizer/Volunteer Leader!

It’s that time of the year again – time to start thinking about WordCamp Miami 2019 (at least in terms of organization and support). During our last WordPress meetup in Davie, FL we invited people to signup to help out and become involved. We got a dozen names along that night!

We are actively seeking those interesting in being a high-level volunteer or organizer for WordCamp Miami 2019, which is slated to be at FIU in March 2019. It doesn’t matter what you can do or how you can help – we need all the help we can get! Especially if you can help out in these categories:

– Logo, print, and branding design
– Maintaining a WordPress site (updating content)
– Helping with hotels
– Helping with after-party planning
– Helping with communicating with sponsors and speakers (via email before the event)
– Volunteer coordination
– Registration and help desk coordination
– Help with making/designing swag
– Youth Camp volunteering and organization (WordCamp Miami has one of the largest kid’s camps at a WordCamp!)
– Advertising, Word of Mouth (for sponsors, speakers, and inviting new people and youths)

If you are interested we would like to hear from you as soon as possible, as we are filling some spots by September 30th, 2018.

It’s really simple. Here’s a google form that asks you a few questions:

“Outside The Bubble” Talks

WordCamps are famous for their excellent coverage of WordPress and related ideas and technologies. But sometimes it’s very useful for the growing WordPress community in any area (but particularly in South Florida) to get some outside perspective. You won’t want to be in an echo chamber as they say – there is a time and place to hear certain viewpoints from OTHER communities.

These are we call “outside the bubble” talks.

Speakers

In the past couple of years WordCamp Miami has made an effort to reach out to those outside of the WordPress “bubble”. One of our first “non-WP CMS” speakers: Jason Nickerson give a talk on How Joomla and WordPress Influence Each Other. We had additional speakers come in 2016 and 2017. For our 10th event we would love to see speaker submissions from other non-WP communities that our attendees would appreciate and relate to.

Since WordCamps do not usually compensate speakers for travel, we would expect possible speakers to be from the South or Central Florida area, but location really is not a factor. If you’ve never been to a WordCamp before, you might have questions which we are happy to answer.

Click here to read more about speaker submissions and how to submit.

Attendees

We are extending an official invite to any dedicated Drupal and/or Joomla developers to come to WordCamp Miami and be a part of South Florida’s open source community. Not only are we making an official invite, but we have several (read: very limited quantity) of discounted tickets to any established contributors of the Drupal or Joomla project.

So if you are not a WordPress developer, but work with another open-source solution like Drupal or Joomla, please submit a speaker application. If you have questions, contact miami@wordcamp.org.

But no matter what you develop in – then we would love to have you at one of the biggest local web conferences in Miami and one of the largest WordCamps in the United States.

Call For Speakers!

With our dates officially announced (March 16-18, 2018), we are opening up our call for speakers.

All the information you need to know – including the link to submit a speaker proposal – is located here.

But before you rush to submit, keep reading…

We are making some changes to some tracks and workshops, and introducing new formats for sessions. Please read the submissions page carefully. Also read this insight into what changes we are making in our session tracks this year. For our 10th anniversary we are making some schedule changes!

Returning Speakers? Great. New Speakers? Even better.

We welcome back anyone who has attended and spoken at WordCamp Miami in the past – repeat speakers welcome! On the other hand, we are looking especially for those who might not have spoken at WordCamp Miami before – or perhaps those wanting to make WordCamp Miami their first speaking conference!

Deadline is Midnight EST on Friday December 8th, 2018.

We Are Proud To Announce Our 10th WordCamp!

We have great news regarding our ten WordCamp Miami – it will be held at FIU on March 16-18, 2018. We are also proud to confirm that David Bisset will be stepping up as our lead coordinator this year!

We have been in the early staging of planning for the past month, and we can’t wait to share with you what we’ve got planned. Some ideas, concepts, and workshops from previous years are being carried over but also several fresh new concepts as well.

If you don’t want to wait and book travel way in advance (at least in WordCamp terms) you may already begin by looking at the hotels (we are updating this soon with additional information and possible conference related discounts).

Our call for volunteers, sponsors, and speakers will happen shortly so watch for those announcements. Here’s the best ways to keep updated:

  2. Join over 1200 already on our mailing list!.
